Sophie & Richard’s Finca Wedding at Finca Alaiar
Some love stories sound as if they came straight out of a film – and yet they are real. Sophie and Richard’s story is one of them. They met in a very special way: Sophie works as a flight attendant, Richard is a pilot.
Their paths first crossed at work a little over eight years ago. Even so, it took a few more encounters before the two of them became a couple – a couple who have been through thick and thin ever since. Their story eventually led them to Mallorca and to their symbolic wedding ceremony at Finca Alaiar in Sencelles.
A goosebump moment for the bridal entrance: “Ordinary”
Sophie chose a very personal entrance: she walked to the ceremony area on her own, accompanied by my live performance of the song “Ordinary”, which I had especially rehearsed with Hernán for this moment.
It was one of those moments when time seems to stand still. You could almost feel anticipation, excitement and love blending into one very special atmosphere. The bride’s walk through the shaded avenue became an unforgettable beginning to the ceremony.
A symbolic wedding ceremony under Mallorcan trees
The ceremony took place beneath the old trees of the finca. Nature formed a green canopy of leaves, with soft light falling through it – an intimate, warm atmosphere, made for saying “I do”. It was around 40°C that day, but thanks to the natural shade of the trees and a light breeze, the weather was very manageable.
In my role as wedding celebrant, I told the story of Sophie and Richard: how they met and the many shared chapters that have connected them for more than eight years. Sometimes humorous, sometimes touching – always authentic.
A special highlight was the contribution from their two witnesses, who shared their own perspective on the couple and created more heartfelt moments. At the end, Sophie and Richard signed a symbolic wedding certificate together with their witnesses – a symbolic act that made everything that had been said visible once more.
Music from the heart – during the ceremony and the drinks reception
Together with my musical partner Hernán, I accompanied both the ceremony and the following drinks reception with live music. During the ceremony, our songs created goosebump moments; during the aperitif, we created a light atmosphere with voice and guitar, mainly with songs from the 80s and 90s as well as a few modern pieces.
For me, music is far more than “background accompaniment” – it connects, intensifies emotions and turns moments into memories.
That became visible throughout the day: in every smile, in every tear during the ceremony and in the guests singing along during the reception.
Mediterranean moments of enjoyment
After the ceremony, small delicacies were waiting for the guests: cheese, olives and tapas, served in the garden setting of the finca. Drinks were chilled on ice in large tubs, glasses were raised, people laughed and shared stories.
For me, these enjoyable pauses are among the most beautiful moments of a wedding day – they create space to breathe, to arrive and to fully take in the happiness of the moment.
Dinner beneath a sky of lights
In the evening, long, lovingly decorated tables awaited the wedding party in the finca’s courtyard. Beforehand, this area had been closed off by a large wooden gate, so the guests were only able to discover this beautiful space after the reception.
Orange-coloured glasses and napkins, eucalyptus, candles and the warm stone walls of the finca created a wonderfully atmospheric setting.
Later, strings of lights illuminated the courtyard, and the finca revealed all of its magic: conversations, laughter and that feeling of being exactly in the right place. Later on, the couple and their wedding guests ended the evening with a lively party in the vaulted cellar.
Why Finca Alaiar was the perfect place
Finca Alaiar is a place close to the heart – run by Gabriel and Lena, who accompany every celebration with experience, warmth and a fine eye for detail.
The combination of authentic Mallorcan charm, versatile areas – from the shaded ceremony spot to the atmospheric courtyard – and its central location makes the finca one of the most beautiful settings for symbolic wedding ceremonies on the island.
For Sophie and Richard, it was ideal: plenty of nature, plenty of atmosphere and plenty of space for personal touches.
My personal reflection
On this day, I was once again able to combine two roles: wedding celebrant and singer. Weaving words and music together is always something special – especially when the story is as wonderful as this one.
The entrance to “Ordinary”, the honest words from the witnesses, the laughter while raising a glass, the quiet humming along during the drinks reception, the enjoyment beneath the sky of lights – all of this came together for me in one beautifully harmonious whole.
For Sophie and Richard, the wedding at Finca Alaiar was a celebration of closeness and lightness. For me, it was a gift to be able to accompany a part of their journey – with a personal ceremony speech and with music that made all of it truly tangible.
Conclusion
Sometimes it takes a delay on the ground for a love story to take off. From several encounters between the two of them grew a connection that found its “yes” on Mallorca on this very day.
I sincerely wish Sophie and Richard that their life together remains as light, warm-hearted and full of resonance as this wedding day at Finca Alaiar.
